Last time, members of Clan Caterpie split up, each going their separate ways and paths. Icy remained at the Pewter City Pokécenter. They all know their paths will cross at some point in the future. And now…
Icy went to the gym to watch a few badge matches. Brock was still having difficulty winning. Many of the trainers were using grass pokémon to weaken his rock type pokémon and other types to beat Vulpix and Zubat. As Icy watched Brock get beaten for the tenth time in a row without even coming close, he got bored and went out to lunch.
He ate at a local restaurant where some Chanceys served him. After a good meal, he prepared his gear for Mt. Moon. “If I’m going to get all those badges, I’ve got to get to Cerulean City,” he said to his Abra. They could see the summit rising over the horizon. “There it is. Hmm, I think Insanellama said he was headed this way too, but he’s probably miles ahead of my be now.”
Meanwhile, inside a secret meeting room somewhere in Pewter City. The lights are dim, but the silhouettes of five people can be made out. “Insanellama and Icy are both headed for Cerulean City. See that they never make it there.” A ruby glistened of the finger of the man speaking.
Icy was almost to the entrance of the caves when Abra heard something. Icy turned to Abra and telepathically asked him what was wrong. It was too late. Four members of Team Rocket sprung from their hiding spots. “We have you surrounded, hand over those pokémon Icy and we won’t hurt you that much. Bwa ha ha ha!”
From a distance, a short, little pokémon watched what was going on. The Rockets began advancing on Icy. He was trapped. Abra suddenly sensed the distant pokémon, a Clefairy, and telepathically asked it for help. It complied, and just before one of the agents was about to squish one of Icy’s Caterpie, ten Clefairies began hopping toward them waving their fingers. Team Rocket was mesmerized and Icy had Abra teleport him and his pokémon to a safe distance.
Just then, the sky turned black, only to be broken by the intense power of the Clefairies’ metronome attack. Team Rocket was sent flying many miles into the air until they were no longer visible. Icy ran back to where the Clefairies had been to thank them, but they had mysteriously disappeared. From a distant hill, looking through a pair of slick black binoculars, a dark man had a frown on his face. “This isn’t going to be as easy as we had expected.” He began walking back towards Pewter to tell the bad news to his boss, whom he knew would be most disappointed.
Icy, however, continued on his way towards Mt. Moon. Some trainers come to Mt. Moon in search of the legendary Moon Stone. Others come in hopes of capturing a Clefairy. Icy’s destiny had other plans in store for Mt. Moon, but for the present moment, all Icy could think about was getting to Cerulean City before Team Rocket ambushed him again. Abra navigated him through the winding caverns and they soon could see the Cerulean end. He would do battle with Misty’s water pokémon next for the Cascade Badge. But Icy knows that Team Rocket could be hiding anywhere and will stop at nothing to get him.
