They had been floating toward in what they thought to be the direction towards Pallet Town. Pidgey was tired from flying, so Icy joined Insanellama on top of Porygon. Insane looked at his watch. 6:00AM.
“We’ve been floating around for six hours! Where are we?” he asked.
“Don’t know. Maybe Porygon can help. It’s a cybernetic pokémon, so I’ll just make a few adjustments to his programming.” Icy spent about a half hour tinkering with Porygon’s internal systems. A small satellite dish formed on Porygon’s tail and a computer screen appeared on its back. “Got it. Now we can find out where we are!”
Insane gave Icy a perplexed look. “What is that going to do for us? Cable TV?”
“It’s a link to the GPS System. We can use it to find out exactly where we are.” Icy switched it on and a map appeared on the screen. A blinking dot indicated their position. “Porygon, download these map coordinates into your navigation systems and plot a course for Pallet Town.” Porygon hummed and began float toward Pallet.
“When did you learn how to do that?” Insane asked.
“Oh, just something I did in my spare time. It shouldn’t be long before we reach Pallet.”
“Great. Better develop a taste for pineapple pizza, quick!” Icy just laughed. They had no idea of the terrible explosion that had occurred only three hours after they left on the SS Anne.
When they reached the shore, Porygon returned to its pokéball. Insanellama and Icy headed for the lab. When they rang the bell, Oak said, “Come in.” Professor Oak was reading a copy of the Celadon Times. The front page headline said, “S.S. Anne sinks.”
Meanwhile, X and Lonewolf were making their way towards Pallet as well. When they hit the beach, they were in pallet. They walked to the lab, and rang the bell. Insanellama said, “Come on in.” When they walked in, they too saw the headline.
X said in a very remorseful tone, “I didn’t catch Random before we left. I wonder if he got off before it sank.” Insanellama, X, and Icy were all very worried about their friends. Lonewolf shed a small tear as she thought about if Random was ok. Again the group’s expressions went even lower.
“I’m sure they all made it off safe,” Oak said trying to comfort Icy who had small tears in his eyes.
Just then, Random busted through the door. “Man that water is cold…”
“See, look Icy, Random is ok,” Insane said to comfort his friend.
Icy was still crying. Somehow, he couldn’t picture anyone surviving the explosion. “I h-h-hope you’re right…” he sniffled.
Later that evening, as they sat down to dinner, Icy was speaking with Oak. “I’d like you to examine this Porygon I have. I want to upgrade its internal systems with some new procedures I’ve developed,” Icy said to Oak, handing him the pokéball.
“Sure Icy. Porygons can be easily customized when done properly by a trained professional.”
“I’m professional enough,” Icy proclaimed. Insane seconded it.
“Huh. Customizable Porygons? Whatever…” It was a little out of Random’ s league.
“Well, it may take a day or two to see how much of its systems can be modified. I’ll get started on it tonight. You boys can pick any guestroom to sleep in. There haven’t been too many visitors lately. Oh, by the way, who’s up for tofu?”
“Uhhh…” Icy and Insane and Random sighed in unison. They finished their dinners and Icy ran off to bed.
“I’m really tired. Ahhhhhhh… I need some sleep…” And with that he dropped down right in the middle of the floor. Insane picked up the sound asleep Pikachu and carried him to a room and tucked him into bed.
“Good night Icy. Cya in the morning.” Insane returned to the foyer and spoke with Random.
Icy still couldn’t help but wonder what Mimic was trying to tell him about Mewtwo. Was Mewtwo just completely misunderstood? It was too complicated for him to think about. All he knew was, Mewtwo said that he was a target. That was enough to keep Icy thinking about him.
“Oh yeah!” Random interrupted breakfast. He ran back to his room and carried out the huge sack of Pokéballs that he found aboard the S.S. Anne. “These balls were left on the Anne right before she sank. I barely saved them.”
“Well, let’s check them out!” Icy exclaimed.
“Certainly,” Oak said.
The team grabbed a handful of balls each and took turns throwing them out.
“Sandshrew!” the Pokémon yelled.
Random’s Pokédex spoke up, *Sandshrew - an UGLY Pokémon. Uses ground attacks so it can run away from real enemies.*
“I really shouldn’t have let this model get out…” Oak murmured. Insanellama recalled the Pokémon.
“Wiggly”
“ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!” The crowd shouted.
“Return dangit! Return!” Random shouted.
“Diglett.”
Diglett - a MOLE type Pokémon. Looks like a piece of--- Random turned the Pokédex on mute.
“Cool! A Diglett!” Random yelled. “Am I allowed to keep these Oak?”
“You may keep the Pokémon if they are not claimed in 30 days,” Oak responded.
“Wicked!”
Icy tossed Random the next pokéball.
“RaiCHU!”
“Raichu is the evolved form of Pikachu, as Icy may know…” Oak is so smart!
“Pika,” Icy scowled.
“Rai…. CHU!!!” the Pokémon growled…
“…umm…” Random took a step back.
Insanellama recalled the Raichu before any sparks flew…
“Horsea!”
Oak spoke up, “Horsea is a very popular water Pokémon. She grows into Seadra - a very agile fighter.”
“Cool. I think I will hold on to these balls until I find a good home for them.” Random hugged his Diglett.
“And you have a lot more too,” Insanellama said, pointing to the pile of balls on the floor…
That afternoon, Icy and his friends went to the local diner to have some real food for a change. They ate lunch and began discussing what city to visit next.
“Well, we’ve already been to Pewter, Cerulean, and Vermilion. I think we should pick a city that we need a badge from,” Icy said. They all thought for a while.
Random spoke up. “Let’s go to Celadon City. I can show you all around. Plus, I hear there are some programmers there who could help you with your Porygon Icy.”
“There are?!? Great… We can go as soon as Oak is done analyzing Porygon!” They finished their lunch and headed back to the lab. Prof. Oak walked out of one of the backrooms carrying a pokéball.
“I’m finished analyzing your Porygon. You should visit the programmers in Celadon City. They can help you make modifications to Porygon’s code. My study shows that most of its systems are upgradeable.”
Icy took the pokéball from Oak and thanked him. “Thanks professor! We’ve already decided to go to Celadon City.” They decided it would be best to leave early tomorrow morning since it would be a long hike.
Meanwhile, far away, something was listening to every word they said. “Celadon… That brings back memories… Enjoy your time while you can Icy… I’m not finished yet…” The silver figure remained hovering over the waters separating Pallet and Cinnabar. “Soon… All humans will pay for their ignorance.”
