Last time on the Pokémon: Icy’s Quest… The mysterious man known as Janus infiltrated Team Rocket HQ in Viridian bringing Giovanni to justice. While all this was happening, Icy and Sara made it back home just in time to watch it on the news. But trouble is still close by…
It was a bright sunny morning. Hima-Nuts bathed in the sun while a group of Oddish casually strolled by outside. It watched as they waddled along. Then he looked at Leafy sleeping with the others. ‘She really should be in this sunlight…’ Hima-Nuts, or Beads as Icy named him, had taken a liking to the Viridian Forest Gym. But the site of the Oddish roaming free outside was tempting.
Icy slow woke up finding Sara still asleep by his side. He smiled snuggled closer. Meanwhile, some of the Caterpie began to wake up. They crawled over top their master in search of something to eat. Finally, after they neared covered Icy, he woke up totally.
“Ok, ok… I’ll get you some breakfast.” The Caterpie showed their excitement and quickly scattered. Icy turned back to Sara who was still asleep. “I’ll let her rest. I can cook…” Suddenly, the excited looks on the Caterpies’ faces turned sour. “Hey! I’m not that bad am I?” They nodded. “Oh… Wait a sec, you guys just eat leaves. What, do I pick the wrong ones or something.” They nodded a second time. “Aghhhh…” All nine of his Caterpie smiled and scattered once more.
All the commotion woke the others. Sara yawned as she got up. “Ahh, what’s all that noise?”
“The Caterpies don’t like my cooking or the leaves I gather for them.”
“Aww… I bet they like my cooking, don’t you?” All the Caterpies grinned and nodded. “Hehe, see.”
“… no fair…”
“What’s Beads looking at over there?”
“I dunno.” Icy walked over to the window Beads was looking out of. He saw the rest of the Oddish walk by. “Hey Beads, what’cha watching?”
Beads didn’t respond, he only watched the last few walk by.
“Are you ok?”
Beads turned to Icy and nodded. Icy’s had never really trained Beads because they only found him moments before leaving to search for the next disc. Since then, Beads was left on his own.
“What would you like for breakfast?”
“Hima hima!” [Plant food, what else?]
Icy laughed. “I coulda figured that out myself.”
“So, what’s everyone having,” Sara asked.
“Apples, plant food, leaves…”
“Ok.” Sara checked the fridge. “Eww… we really shoulda cleaned this out before we left. What happened to the trainers we left in charge here?”
“Did we leave anyone here?”
“Oh, come to think of it no…”
“Oh well, guess we better clean that…” He paused.
“Is something wrong?”
Icy couldn’t speak for a moment. In a vision he saw something strange. It felt like a premonition of some sort.
“Icy?”
“Huh… Ughh… My head feels a little woozy that’s all…”
“Oh… ok.”
“Do you have everything prepared?”
“Yes my grace.”
“Good. I want you to stay here during the experiment.”
“As you wish my grace.”
“It won’t be long now.”
Meanwhile,
“I hereby sentence you, Giovanni, to life in prison without bail.” The judge slammed the gabble against her desk and officers escorted Giovanni back to his cell. His face was filled with hate.
“We are here live where Giovanni, former President of Team Rocket has just been sentenced to life in prison. It looks like the end for this horrible man and his cruel organization. I’m Ashley, back to you Billy.”
“Thank you Ashley. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.” The TV switched to the pokémon battle that was about to start.
“Welcome back folks. We have a very exciting match for you today in this training battle. You all remember young Trinity from last week’s battle. Today, she is up against another young and raising star, Greg. Greg is primarily an electric type trainer. Let’s see how well this two young trainers perform.”
The judge came up to the center. “This is a training battle for the Spectral Island League. Therefore, the rules of the league will be implemented into this match with the exception that both trainers may switch pokémon at any time. Once two of one trainer’s pokémon have been defeated, we will switch fields.” The two nodded accepting the rules. “This will not be a full length battle. Four on four. Remember, you may reuse any pokémon you retreat that has not fainted. Let the battle begin!” The crowd roared on. Even for a practice match, this was a pretty big deal. Trainers who did well here were sure to be ready for the actual gym leaders.
The field was a sandy terrain with small hills.
“You don’t look so tough,” Greg said spitefully. Trinity just sneered. “I choose you, Electabuzz.”
“In that case, I choose Yogirusu!” A small grayish looking rock pokémon emerged. “Yogirusu, sand storm attack!”
“What a move. Trinity is using Yogirusu’s sand storm attack, a rock type, to take advantage of Electabuzz’s natural weakness to rock attacks.” Electabuzz was not only hurt bad from the attack, he could no longer see.
“Huh, Electabuzz!!!”
“Yogirusu, don’t let him recall it. Finish it with a bite attack!” Yogirusu bit Electabuzz while he wasn’t looking and it fainted. “YES!!!”
“Crap. Electabuzz, return.” Greg searched through his pokéballs to find something capable of defeating Trinity’s rock/ground type pokémon. His specialty in electric pokémon was about to backfire against Trinity now. “Ok, I choose Wartortle!”
“Fine with me. Yogirusu, return. Chonchi go!” A small blue pokémon with little antennas sprang out. It was miniature compared to Wartortle.
“Wartortle, watergun attack now!” Wartortle’s watergun splashed Chonchi back towards Trinity. “Hahaha!!! I’m gonna beat that puny thing now. Watergun attack!”
“Joke’s on you Greg. Chonchi, spark!” Chonchi charged its antennas with electricity and sent a spark through the water spray from Wartortle. Wartortle was electrocuted and fainted. “Who’s laughing now?”
Greg was furious. He recalled Wartortle. Suddenly, the ground began to rumble. “And now, since Trinity has defeated two of Greg’s pokémon, we will be changing the playing field.” Then field lowered into the ground and a new field came up. This one was an ice field and no water. It looked very slippery and Chonchi was having trouble keeping his balance.
“I choose you, Seel!” Seel had no problem keeping his balance on the ice. “Quickly Seel, head butt attack!” Seel charged into Chonchi and smashed him over the ice into Trinity. Chonchi was defeated. “YES! Take that. Aww, your little toy broke huh?” Trinity gave Greg a sour look.
“Chonchi, good try. Return Chonchi. Ok Greg, you wanna see my toys? Go Nyura! Quick attack!” Nyura was a blue cat-like pokémon of the Ice/Evil type. It had no trouble moving over the ice and quickly attacked Seel. “Disappearing attack Nyura!” Nyura disappeared. Seel looked all around trying to find her. Suddenly, Nyura appeared beside Seel and gave him a good slash. That ended that round.
“What! No way! Grrrrr… Seel return.” The audience cheered on. Greg was totally infuriated at this point. “That’s it! I choose Pikachu!” The crowd was impartial… They had seen Pikachus all the time. It was so overrated. Pikachu stared at the audience and sulked a bit. “Pikachu, thunderbolt.”
“Nyura, agility now!” Nyura almost skated on the ice to avoid Pikachu’s thunderbolt attack. “Now, finish off that cute but overrated Pikachu with your fury swipes attack.” Nyura skated up to Pikachu and made her move. Pikachu was powerless to stop her and finally in an effort to avoid her attack, slipped on the ice. Nyura took one final swipe which finished Pikachu.
“NOOOO!!! That’s not fair!” Greg recalled his Pikachu.
“Huh. Oh don’t be such a sore loser.” The judge came up to Trinity.
“Trinity is the winner of the battle.” The crowd cheered as Greg shamefully walked away.
“I’ll get even with you someday Trinity…”
=====
Back in the Viridian City Forest…
“Icy, how do you like your breakfast?”
Icy took one last bite out of the apple. “It’s great.” The other’s finished as well. Sara went back into the main gym. A few of the pokémon were out there training. The Caterpies and Butterfree were playing games, Hocus was meditating, and Static was charging himself up.
Icy walked out into the main gym with her. “It’s so nice to finally be home again.”
“Ya. Definitely.”
“It’s time.” The mysterious figure began to speak strange words. “Temporal magic…” A light blue sphere formed before him. “Timeshift…” The sphere exploded into a gateway.
“So… What are we going to do today?” Sara asked.
“Sleep.”
“What?”
“I’m tired…”
“Ba…”
“What the heck?” Icy looked over Sara to see a blue portal form.
Sara turned to see. “What is that? Where did it come from?”
“It just appeared.”
“Do you think it’s safe?”
Just then, a group of Oddish ran by and jumped into the portal. “Oh no, Oddish don’t go in there.” Icy ran after them.
“No Icy! Wait, it’s gotta be a trap.” She was too late. Icy, the Oddishes, and the portal were gone.
“Where am I?” Icy focused his eyes on the figure in front of him. Everything looked kinda weird, like it was inside a machine or something. The figure in front of him was totally dark. Icy couldn’t even make out a shape.
“Welcome Icy. I’ve been expecting you quite some time now. You disappoint me by being so late.”
“Sorry about that. I don’t even know who you are.”
“That much is obvious. I did not summon you to my realm for idle chit-chat. I summoned you here to battle you and test your skills.”
“Your realm? Where are we?”
“VIRTUAL ARMOR!!!” Suddenly, pieces of white armor flew out of nowhere onto the figure speaking. “Prepare to meet your end Icy.” The figure lunged out of the shadows and into view wielding a large sword.
“AGH!!!” Icy made a quick dash to the side avoiding the sword. “Virtual?” The figure was coming back. Icy ducked just narrowly missing the sword. “If that’s virtual, are we in some sort of VR?” Icy teleported to avoid the next blow. “No energy loss…” The figure was coming back. “THUNDER!!!” Icy’s energy levels soared way above normal even for pikachus.
His opponent quickly moved to the side and avoided Icy’s attack. “Too slow little one.” He stopped in mid-air. “Block this! VIRTUAL MISSILES!!!” In a flash, six missiles appeared out of nowhere. “FIRE!” Each missile flew toward Icy.
“Oh crap!” Icy quickly thought about his options. ‘Since in this place my energy doesn’t seem to deplete as fast, I should be able to block with my shield.’ The missiles were closing in. “PSIONIC SHIELD!” A blue sphere formed around Icy. The first missile exploded on contact but the second missile almost broke through. “Argh… Can’t hold it much longer…” The third missile shattered Icy’s shield and sent him flying back a ways. The last three missiles were still on target. “Teleportation!” Icy vanished just as the missile exploded. The next two were right on him. “Teleportation!!!” Icy teleported in back of the missiles. One turned around and headed straight into the other. They both exploded not far from Icy.
“Most impressive. You are quite agile.”
“Thanks for the compliment.” Icy took this opportunity to strike. “THUNDER!!!”
“Temporal Magic!!! TIME STOP!!!” The lightning bolt froze in front of him.
“Impossible!!!”
“You think only with what you can see. There is a whole other dimension out there if you can be open to its call. NULLIFY!” The lightning bolt vanished into particles.
“Who are you?”
“It’s not time for you to know that yet. I’m also not through will you.” The figure flew directly at Icy with the sword drawn again.
“Uh oh,” Icy said stepping aside. “Teleportation…” The sword sliced through the air that now occupied Icy’s position. “Missed me!”
“Your speed is unbelievable. But for how long can you keep it up?”
“I can run circles around you all day.”
“How fast? Temporal magic!”
Icy gasped. “PSIONIC SHIELD!!!” The sphere enveloped him again.
“SLOW!!!” His opponent targeted his spell at Icy. The magic cut right through the shield.
“Wwwwwhhhhhaaaaattttt tttthhhheeee…” he said slowly.
“Now, you were saying?”
Icy tried calculating an escape plan. So far, all he knew about this place was that he had almost limitless energy and his opponent could use some strange form of “magic”. His little Pikachu mind worked to understand all that was happening.
“That spell should wear off now.” Icy felt his reflexes quicken to normal speed again.
“What’s wrong with you? Why have you brought me here? Is this some sorta sick joke?”
“Simple minded being. I’ve seen enough to satisfy my needs. You are free to leave this realm now and return to you gym. If you do not, I will destroy you for real.” He opened the portal back to Icy’s gym. “Tell no one of what you saw here for I can hear everything. Should you betray this, I will not be so easy next time.”
“Who are you?”
“No questions. Leave now or be destroyed.” Icy decided it’d be best to take his advice. He entered the portal. “I will take pleasure in destroying you and all the others in this pathetic world when the proper time is at hand.”
Another figure appeared beside him. “I told you he was stronger in that form.”
“The properties of this dimension aided him.”
“You are thousands of times stronger here. A battle in the regular plane would not go so easily in your favor.”
“While I detest that tone, you are correct. My only insurance is to restore him to his human state. He and that girl. You and Mewtwo can recreate the cure now that you’ve seized Giovanni’s records on the weapon. His power as a human will be purely psychic, easy enough to handle in this realm.”
“Understood my grace…”
Icy reappeared in the Viridian Forest Gym. Sara was waiting, hoping he’d be alright. When she finally saw him reappear, she was overjoyed. “Are you alright Icy?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Where did that thing lead? What happened to those Oddish?”
“It was a deception. But I’m alright.”
“By who?”
“I don’t know…”
“Well, at least you aren’t hurt.”
“Yup.”
“C’mon, everyone is in the main gym training. We could use a workout as well seeing we were frozen in ice for a while…”
“I guess you are right there.” Icy followed Sara out into the main gym and they and the pokémon trained for the afternoon.
Who was that mysterious opponent? And why didn’t he want Icy to ever return? Things are getting stranger and stranger. Find out if any of it will make better sense next time on Pokémon: Icy’s Quest!
