A New Way Home

Episode 96

Last time on Pokémon: Icy’s Quest… An unknown being sends Mewtwo to kill Icy and his friends. But before Mewtwo gets there, Goddish asks that he reconsider his actions. Mewtwo refuses to listen and almost does kill Icy and Sara. But now that they are free from the icy prison, how will they escape the Gi Desert?

Icy and Sara were still sleeping peacefully together. Hocus decided not to wake them since they had been through a lot. He continued his meditation, hoping to find from it a way of escaping the Gi Desert before it was too late. While he was pondering in the corner, Buttercup, Flutter, Aura, and Sapphire were sleeping beside Icy and Sara. Static was alone by himself. He had decided to take a look around and become familiar with the area since they might be there a very long time.
“Who’s there?” Hocus said suddenly. Static came to him. “Static, did you just hear something?”
“No Hocus, I didn’t hear anything.”
“Hmm, strange, I could have sworn I heard voices…”
“That’s odd. It couldn’t have been me, I didn’t say anything. And all the others are asleep.”
“Strange… Perhaps we are not alone here.”
“Umm, you’ve been watching too much Mew Files…”
“Huh, I don’t even watch TV. Well, actually… ok, so I watch the Mew Files. What’s wrong with that? I think there must be other intelligent pokémon species out there.”
Static made a circle with his finger next to his head. “CooCoo…”
  “Humph…”
“Hey, don’t take it personally, I’m just trying to lighten the mood.”
“That’s alright Static. I could use a good laugh now…”
“Hey, I got an idea. Remember when we first got here, Loki tried to read the writing on these walls. See look.”
“There’s something strange about that writing. It’s almost as if it was staring right back at us.”
“You’re slipping back into that Mew Files mode…”
  “I mean it… Something just doesn’t seem right… Oh… I think too much…”
“Hey, there ya go. We are making progress here. C’mon, you can’t possibly function without rest. Take a nap or something. Don’t worry Hocus, we’ll find a way home. I know we will.”
“You’re right. I am a bit tired. Perhaps the voices I heard were just my imagination.”
“Yup… I’ll stand guard in case these ‘voices’ do have owners.”
“Ok. Thanks Static.” Hocus yawned and went to sleep.
Icy finally woke up. Sara also woke. They both looked at each other and smiled. Both were glad they had not split up back then. “Hi Sara, did you sleep well?”
“Uh huh. I had a wonderful dream.”
  “What was it about?”
“I dreamed that we were all back home in the Viridian Forest. Everyone was happy and celebrating. And me and you were playing games with our pokémon while the students were admiring Frosterpie.”
“Wow, that is a wonderful dream. Hopefully, we can make it real by escaping from here.”
  “I hope so too… I miss our home…”
“Aww, look at our Butterfree. Don’t they look cute all piled on top of each other like that?”
  “Hehehe, yeah, they do.”
“Hmm… I was wondering if there was some way of teleporting out of here…”
“But you can’t teleport that far… Instead of being in here, we’d be in the desert.”
“How did Mewtwo break through the temporal barrier…”
“Probably because he’s all big and powerful. He’s such a show-off…”
“Yeah, and he definitely enjoys showing me that power a lot…”
“Don’t talk about that anymore… I was so terrified.”
“Me too… But it’s all over now.” Sara ran up to Icy and gave him a big hug.
“Are we ever going to get home?”
“Yes. We’ll find a way to get back to the Viridian Forest. Don’t worry Sara.”
Small tears fell from her eyes. “Ok…”

“Can they be trusted?” said an unknown voice to another.
  “I don’t know.”
“They did help protect the palace from that attack.”
“Yes, but they were only here because they wanted to steal Frosterpie.”
“I don’t think so. That other man was trying to steal it. The Pikachu was of a pure heart. He can’t be bad.”
  “So what do we do?”
“I think the Kadabra is on to us.”
“Right, it won’t be long until he discovers our secret.”
“Then how should we go about this situation?”
“We stay hidden for now. They might figure out how to leave and then we can resume our lives in peace.”
  “Agreed.”

Frosterpie slowly awoke. “Hi Frosterpie. Glad to see you are alive too. Guess we all made it!”
“Yes. Hmm, but I don’t think we are through yet. The palace is starting to collapse from the heavy damage it sustained.”
“But there’s no way to return to the real world. We are trapped here.”
  “Oh no…”
  “Master.”
  “Hocus?”
“I believe I may have an idea that will work.”
  “I’m waiting to hear it.”
“Your phasing ability. If you transported us to the Void, we could phase back into the normal timeframe.”
  “That’s not a bad idea… but I still can’t control that ability…”
“You have to master, it’s the only way we can get out of here.”
“Ok, I will try.” Icy closed his eyes. His mind concentrated on opening the rift between their location and the Void. His body glowed with energy. “Eeeeee, Aghhhh… I can’t do it… I don’t have the power to open the rift…”
“I will channel my energy into you then.”
“Me too Icy,” said Frosterpie. They began to feed energy into Icy as he attempted again to open the rift. His body glowed bright white now.
“UGHHH…,” he starting crying as he took in the energy. “No… stop… it’s too much, I can’t open the rift… Ugh…” Icy collapsed.
  “Oh no… We’ll never escape…”
“This can’t be how it ends…”

“They weren’t able to open the rift.”
“Let’s at least help them on their way.”
“Yes. The sooner they leave the better. We must repair the structure.”
“Ok then. But we can’t just reveal ourselves to them.”
“Ok. Let the Kadabra lead them to us.”

“I can hear those voices again.”
  “Hocus, you are hearing things.”
“No no, this is for real.” He heard the sounds again. “There, did you hear that?”
“Come to think of it, I did…”
“They came from over there.” Hocus and Static both walked over towards the wall.
“It’s those strange markings again. Those things are everywhere it seems.”
“Why do I get the feeling they’ve been watching us all this time?”
“That’s ridiculous. You know that kind of stuff ONLY happens in The Mew Files.”
  “Yeah, but…”
“Hocus, seriously. They’re just markings. They can’t think or speak or look.”

“He insulted us. C’mon, I wanna teach that pokémon a lesson.”
  “Not just yet.”

Hocus made a closer examination of the markings. “Hmm. They seem to be arranged in a pattern, as if forming words.”
“Can you read it? Not even Loki could translate the stuff.”
“I’m a lot smarter than Loki.”
  “Sure you are.”
  “Not now little Pikachu.”
  “Hey…”
“You had it coming. Now stop acting like a kid and help me with this.”
  “What did you find?”
  “I think there’s a stone loose here.”

  “He found it.”
  “Now what?”

  “Hey cool.”
Hocus and Static tugged on the stone letter. “Ouch, stop that.”
  “WHAT THE HECK!!!”

=====

“Oh my Goddish, the wall just talked!” cried Static. This got Icy and Sara’s attention. Sara helped Icy limp over to where Hocus and Static were.
“What are you talking about Static?” Sara asked.
“Yah. You are starting to sound more like Hocus when he watches Mew Files,” giggled Icy.
“Ha ha ha, real funny. But it did talk. It said ‘ouch’.”
  “Riiiiiiiiiiight.”
“Humph, I heard it. Didn’t you Hocus? You’ve been hearing those things talking all day.”
“I do think there’s some validity to what Static is saying.”
“That’s it. After we get home no more Mew Files for either of you,” Icy said finally.
“WOULD YOU STOP BASHING THE MEW FILES ALREADY!!!” Hocus yelled. Everyone else facefaulted.

“Ok, enough’s enough. I’ve been trying to rest all week and these crazy pokémon just keep yapping and yapping away.”
“Alright. But there’s no telling how we will be accepted.”
“Anything is better than just watching them scream. It’s making my eye vibrate.”
  “Ok, here goes.”

“ICY!!! Look!” Sara pointed at the wall. It was lighting up. “What could be causing that?” Sara asked.
“This is absolutely astonishing. No light is hitting it from any area, yet it glows with such intensity,” Hocus remarked.
“I’m glad you think so highly of this, ‘thing’, but what exactly is it?” Icy looked at the wall, still pondering what was going on.
From the light, a small figure appeared floating in midair. It kinda resembled a letter from the alphabet. “Greetings Icy. I am Annon.”
  “Annon???”
Annon facefaults (how ever that’s actually accomplished…) “Yes. My species have guarded shrines to pokémon like this from long ago. The writing you see on these walls, they are all Annon.”
“But that most mean…” started Icy.
“…Yes, there are countless varieties of my species. We exist in many different forms, but commonly resemble the letters of your alphabet.”
“Hmm, I wonder, could that mean that pokémon created the alphabet rather than humans?” asked Sara.
“It quite possibly could be,” replied Icy.
“Anyways, we Annon have guarded this shrine even since the great Alakazam ordered its construction in prehistoric pokétimes. He asked us to make sure that only a person true and pure in heart could enter Frosterpie’s tomb.”
“So that’s why the doors opened for Icy.”
“Correct. You called it a cheap Hollywood trick when in fact it was very real.”
  “That’s cool.”
“We have been the protectors of hundreds of rare pokémon relics to keep greedy people such as Team Rocket from stealing them. You are the first humans to ever see us in true form. Before now, no human has ever conversed with a member of the Annon species.”
  “You must be lonely…”
“Not at all. See for yourselves. There are countless Annon living in this palace alone. I have many great friends here.” An explosion rings out from the NE corridor. “I am afraid this structure might not hold up longer.
“What will happen to you Annon?”
“That is unimportant, what is however, is getting you all out of this realm. We Annon will be fine no water what.”
“We tried to escape but Icy can’t summon enough energy to open a temporal rift.”
“A temporal rift, he can do that?”
  “No I can’t…”
  “Icy.”
  “Look, I can’t. I can’t control it.”
“Icy, we Annon may be able to help you. We have seen many different situations in our lives. We can provide the energy you need to open the rift back to your home.”
“Why are you in such a hurry to get rid of us?” Hocus asked.
“We have nothing to hide. There’s no telling how long this place will stay in one piece. Unless you leave now, we cannot ensure your safety. Please, you must trust us, we have no intent on deceiving you.”
“I think they are telling the truth, this place is falling apart. Plus, maybe they can get me to open the rift to escape.”
“Please Icy, will you trust us. If you are, I guess we attempt to open that rift now.” Another explosion happens near the main chamber.
“We are running out of time.” Another explosion wakes the sleeping Butterfree.
  “What was that?” Buttercup whines.
“I think it was an explosion.”
“Guys, over here quick. These Annon here are going to help us get home finally.”
“Awesome!” Flutter said. The rest of the Butterfree flew over to Icy. Frosterpie joined them.
“Ok Icy. Allow your mind to be open to us. Concentrate on beyond the rift and we will combine our power to open the rift.”
“Ok. Let’s give it a try.” Icy closed his eyes.
“Now THIS is definitely something out of the Mew Files,” Hocus said.
“Do you EVER shut up?” Static remarked.
Icy began to call forth the rift back home. A small blue stream of energy flowed from his body in front of him. The rift slowly began to form.
“Look, it’s working.” Hocus and Sara watched the rift start to take shape. Sweat was dripping down Icy’s face. He began to falter.
“Annon, now would be a good time to help him.”
“Yes. Let’s go Annon!” All the Annon popped out of the walls and circled around Icy. “Lucky Light!” They fired all their energy into Icy. His flinched as it hit him.
“AGHHHHHHHH!!!” he screamed. The blue beam got stronger and stronger. The rift was almost open.
  “It’s working.”
  “Look, home…”
  “Is it ready?”
“TEMPORAL RIFT, OPEN!!!!!!” Icy fired one last energy beam into the forming rift which gave it a final oval shape. “Ughhhh…” He collapsed.
“Go now…” Explosions rang out from all around the palace.
“Come with us Annon,” Sara said as she dragged Icy over to the rift.
“We can’t… We will hold this place up as long as we can.”
“Thank you Annon. We will never forget you.”
“Please… Do not tell this secret to any other humans or pokémon. Our identity must remain hidden… You must understand…”
  “Ok…”
Sara went with Icy through the rift first. Hocus followed next with the four Butterfree and Static tagging behind. Frosterpie was the last to crawl up to the blue portal.
  “Frosterpie…”
“Thank you Annon for protecting me all those years…” A cold tear formed in his eye. “I… I don’t think I would have made it without you…”
“We were happy to protect your memory for all these years. And now, we are grateful to see you go with that fine trainer. Good luck young Frosterpie.”
  “Goodbye Annon. Goodbye…”
  “Enjoy your new life Frosterpie.”
Frosterpie shed one last tear before crawling through the rift. It hit the cold floor of the Ice Palace. And with that, the palace finally began to collapse…

Meanwhile…
  “He didn’t fulfill the task I set…”
  “It doesn’t harm our plans…”
“His hatred for the other better be strong enough to carry out the current mission. Go with him. Make sure the coup happens as planned.”
  “As you wish my grace.”

Could these mysterious people be our heroes’ latest villains? Who exactly is the next target in their evil plans? Find out next week on, Pokémon: Icy’s Quest.
